Editorial Steward at In Practice with Healing Justice LDN

Healing Justice LDN (HJL) is an organisation dedicated to building community-led healthcare and healing. In October 2024, HJL launched In Practice, a space to dream up, imagine and rehearse alternatives that render our current system redundant.

As the inaugural Editorial Steward, I helped envision and build the platform from scratch. I then commissioned creative works that directly engaged with and responded to key themes in HJLs work, including disability justice, grief work, survivor work, politicised somatics, community-led research, abolition, and themes in and around these. Work could take the form of writing, art, audio, video, and multi-media projects.

I commissioned creative works in two rounds: the first was a selection of individual pieces that spoke to any of the themes, with an open and flexible approach. Then, I launched three specific collections around particular themes and commissioned work relating to each: psychiatric abolition and Mad liberation, trans community healthcare, and disability justice.

All the work is available to browse and enjoy on the In Practice site (scroll down to the Archive section for the first round of commissioned work).

COPYWRITING & BRAND

  • Recipe for Disaster

I carry out research and co-write social media content for and with Venetia La Manna, a fair fashion campaigner and creator. Many of our videos centre on the idea of a ‘recipe for disaster; in which she makes a dish and with each ingredient, she also reveals a horrifying fact about a company or brand. Examples include Amazon, Coca Cola, Shein, Adidas and M&S. We also create a variety of other themed videos using Venetia’s alter ego Polly Esther, who hosts an annual Greenwashing Awards ceremony. All videos can be found on Venetia’s instagram.
